Before You Begin: Helpful EFT Tips for Beginners

  • Don’t worry about being perfect: EFT tapping is about progress, not perfection. Just give it a try and see how it feels.
  • Use the meridian points as a guide: Focus on tapping on each point while expressing how you feel.
  • Start with how you feel: Acknowledge your current emotions and allow yourself to feel them without judgment.
  • Build up to how you want to feel: Once you’ve addressed your current feelings, shift your focus to how you want to feel instead.
  • Take it one step at a time: EFT tapping is a journey, so be patient with yourself and trust the process.

The EFT Technique: Let’s Get Tapping!

1. Identify the Problem

Pinpoint the specific issue causing emotional distress, whether recent events or ongoing triggers.

*If you are unsure what issue to focus on, refer to ‘The Personal Peace Procedure’ listed below under ‘Helpful Resources for EFT Tapping.’

2. Rate the Intensity

Assess the intensity of your distress on a scale of 0 to 10 as a baseline for progress tracking.

3. Craft a Setup Statement

Create a statement acknowledging the issue and affirming self-acceptance.  For example, “Even though I feel angry about [specific issue], I deeply and completely accept myself.”

4. Tap the Karate Chop PointImage of a woman's face with arrows pointing to different meridian points.

Tap on the side of your hand while repeating your setup statement three times.

5. Tap the Meridian Points

Tap lightly on various face and body points, following a chart.

6. Repeat the Reminder Phrase

While tapping, reaffirm your issue-related phrase for each point.

7. Check Your Progress

Pause to evaluate any changes in your distress level after a few rounds of tapping.

8. Keep Tapping

Continue tapping on points as needed until distress lessens or disappears.  Move on to the next issue and repeat the process.

9. Wrap Up

End your session with deep breaths and gratitude for any progress made. Reflect on insights gained during the practice.

By persistently applying the tapping technique and addressing each issue individually, you can gradually reduce emotional distress and promote healing and inner peace.

The Personal Peace Procedure for Profound Healing

If you have many or major health and wellness issues and are unsure where to start then begin with the Personal Peace Procedure.  This is a profound healing process developed by EFT founder, Gary Craig.  You can visit his website for more details about this procedure.

In EFT tapping this procedure involves listing every bothersome event or memory you can recall throughout your life.  These events may be big or small.  They may include childhood traumas, accidents, fears, embarrassing or humiliating moments, stressful times, grief, experiences that evoke feelings of shame, guilt, resentment, jealousy or anger, and any other emotionally charged memory.

This can be an ongoing list that you add to gradually and work through slowly.  After you have begun your list then apply the tapping technique outlined above to each of these events individually.

By addressing each event separately, you can systematically work through and release emotional distress associated with these memories.  This process allows for comprehensive healing by addressing a wide range of past traumas, fears, or negative beliefs. And I highly recommend it!

Take a deep breath and relax. You can repeat this script as many times as needed until you feel calmer. Remember to focus on the specific feelings of anxiety as you tap on each point.
